No Country for Grumpy Grandpas

November 14th, 2007 by

Director Joel Coen

Hey idiots, Grumpy Grandpa here. You know, I rarely agree with what I see on TV. However the other day, between oatmeal bites, I caught a commercial that I couldn’t help but love. It was a “preview” for a moving picture entitled “No Country for Old Men.”

I didn’t pay much attention to what the movie was about. I was too busy cleaning up the oatmeal I’d just spit up. Fortunately, the title told me everything I needed to know. This is a movie about the fact that this country is not for old men. Heck, I could have told Hollywood that years ago!

Inspired by the knowledge that somebody in showbiz understands what it’s like to be a grumpy grandpa, I did some research on whether this “talkie” is getting much buzz. Just as sure as Liz Taylor was a looker, ”No Country” is drawing in the searches. Interest in the geriatric masterpiece is up 314% this week and related searches on “coen brothers” and “no country for old men reviews” are surging. Strangely, folks 65 and older make up just 3% of the searches.

So, now that mainstream America has shown it’s ready for an uncompromising vision of what it’s like to be an old man, will other films follow suit? How about “No Continent for Old Ladies”? Hey, if it stars Liz Taylor, I’m there.
